Olive harvesting in Tuscany

04/11/2024

Ciao amici!

Autumn is here, bringing with it many magical golden-colored days. Autumn has a thousand faces, and one of them is the tradition of olive harvesting, which is in full swing and usually ends in early December. Tuscany is known as one of the world's leading producers of extra virgin olive oil. This central Italian region is home to lush olive groves where various types of olives grow. You'll often hear Tuscans refer to extra virgin olive oil (EVOO) as "oro verde" (green gold). Unlike regular olive oil, extra virgin olive oil is cold-pressed without heat or chemicals, making it the most expensive and sought-after oil in the world. However, this year they warn that there will be a bit less of it due to the unfavorable spring weather, which unfortunately damaged much of the crop. If you're interested in learning how the olive harvest takes place, we can include this experience during your stay!
